Saturday, November 17, 2007 The Army. Love it or hate it. Face it. You're being led by ppl dumber than urself, and somehow or another, the entire process seems to bring ur intellectual level down by 40%. Boost that to an extra 20% when you have a helemt on. Thank God commandos wear jungle caps instead. haha. Well, certainly been a while since i blogge now haven i. Been quite a while now, and if my calculations are correct, its been a cool 8 weeks since i blogged. 2 months. So, you ask. what has this hermit been up to? 190th Basic Airborne Course. Well, you're not alive until you've taken that brave step. The step that says "Screw it. Lets do it." After drilling for 2 weeks and enjoying just abt every night out, This blogger is a certified army paratrooper. 3 jumps, 1 outta a F-50 and 2 outta a Chinook. 'How is it?' has been a question alot of people have been asking. and my honest answer is. I cant. How do you explain the shere nerve that it takes to take that leap of faith. How do you explain feeling the prop blast when it washes over you as you jump? The feeling of seeing both the aircraft and your canopy deploying as you spend a few split seconds of free fall? Or the feeling of being suspended in the air for a full one minute? Or how do you explain the anxiety that washes over you during ur final parts of your decent and the ground seems to be rushing towards you. as you brace for impact? You cant. You bloody hell Experience it. =] Poetry aside, this is one of my defining moments in life. Doing something like that doesnt just pass you so easily. It impacts you. and the thrill is pure pleasure. As Mwo Yeoggie said. "You cant buy this experience with money." On another note however, i injured myself during my first decent. Why? Cos i was too busy enjoying the scenery. :P Forgetting to feet knee lock tight was one, but i think i forgot to bend my knees and attempted a PLF. After losing you in the mess of technical terms, i shld just cut it short and say i injured myself pretty bad. Moaning and writhing on the ground for a full minute before i could recover myself. BUT! i still got my act together and with some help from above, the sprain didnt prove too much a nuisance from completing my 2 other jumps the next day. 43rd CSBOC During this course, i had more or less tried to carry on the family tradition by involving myself with the sea( Dad was in the navy see.) Commando Small Boat Operator Course. Sounds very sophisticated right. Couldnt be further from the truth. But i still had fun nonetheless. In short, Think riding the waves all around Singapore in either a Zodiac or an Assault boat, navigating, beaching and anchoring, day and night with a 40hp OBM (Outboard motor). Oh did i mention? We always had picnics on our private yacht. :] Well demo course starts this monday. And its gonna be 2 weeks a nee soon camp. Till then, ill entertain you with some old pics i salvaged outta my old camera Hp.
PS: You can take my leave away, But You will never take away my freedom! Tally ho! |
