Sunday, October 22, 2006 - Chopsticks - Ah yes.. yet another time for the ever consistent update.. hiked macritchie on depavali.. this time with mum dad and ying.. By God's grace, the haze lifted, and we experienced the sun for most of the journey up the hill. PSI was only abt 60 plus i think.. Anyway, thejhourney uphill to the treetop walk was pretty much okay.. The air was uniquely fresh with the constant resupply of oxygen from the surrounding trees. It was cool to be back here exactly a month later. Not much happened, except mum and dad got seprated from us cos they were walking too slow.. couldnt blame them tho.. mum hadnt been exercising for months.. haha.. The last kilometer up the treetopwalk was again, the worst part of the journey.. it was so tiring just getting up hill, that the 3 of us nearly collapsed once we got up.. Jia Ying was like "The monkeys.. i want to eat the monkeys.." Yeah.. we were pretty delirious.. A drink from our gatorade bottles ensured that all thoughts of consuming monkeys were kept at bay. Oh yeah.. we had the opportunity to actually see a couple of monkeys mate.. haha.. they actually were looking at us while at their "thing" We waited for about half an hour before i saw my parents climbing up the hill.. my mum was clearly tired and saying she wanted to kill me for even talking her into hiking today.. wahahaha.. anyway.. the treetop walk was wonderful.. altho the haze did diminish the fun abit.. we couldnt see far, but managed to catch a glimpse of pierce.. it was cool to look down from the suspension bridge.. didnt manage to see any animals tho.. was hoping to see manaques foraging for food. But boy did i get more than enough monkey later on.. just read on and ur see what i mean. Next stop, was jelutong tower. We planned to have a nice picnic up at the scenic top floor, which had the 360 degree view of the forest. The view was impressive, and we had our shoes off and sandwiches laid ou in front of us.. Jia ying was kind enuff to bring some pineapple tarts which tasted amazingly good for homemade ones.. Now came the climax of our journey.. unknown to us, an unsuspecting manaque had followed us UP TO THE TOP LEVEL! We were just about to dig in when i saw the bugger climbing up the stairs mere centimeters away from me. I was thinking "hey thats a manaque.. whats it doing.." Didnt manage to complete my thoughts. the cheeky bugger made a grab for the box of pineapple tarts. Thanks to jia ying's quick reaction, the box of pineappletarts were snatched faster than u can say "Bloody monkey trying to grab my tarts." Okay.. that wasnt so fast.. but fast enuff. To make up for its slower reaction, the primape made do with MY SANDWICH! the basket animal then ambled past me and sat on its arse 30cm from me and started munching on my sandwich, bread first then my piece of luncheon meat. "Im sorry," it seemed to say "But my family and i have yet to eat for a while. You mind if u gave me this sandwich? oops i seemed to have finished it. Be a good lad and pass me those pineapple tarts too will you?" Im not making this up. He even decided to try snatching the pineapple tarts from Jy's bag.. A perfect picnic wrecked. We decided to carry on our journey from there and started on the last leg of our journey back to macritchie car park. Not much changed on the last leg, except a tree dropped on a bench.. how things can change in a month.. Anyhow, another journey well completed.. looking forward t another one soon. |
